Whoopi Goldberg, Jenifer Lewis, Vanessa Williams and Vivica A. Fox to Star in Netflix Comedy ‘Women Like Us’

Whoopi Goldberg, Jenifer Lewis, Vanessa Williams and Vivica A. Fox are teaming up to star in a new original comedy movie for Netflix. The film, titled “Women Like Us” is produced by the Obamas’ Higher Ground and Charles D. King’s Macro Film Studios.

Tasha Smith (“Bel-Air,” “Survival of the Thickest,” “Mayor of Kingstown”) will direct the movie from an original script by Ali Kinney (“Ginny & Georgia,” “Love Life”), with writing from Tracy Oliver (“Harlem,” “Girls Trip,” “The Blackening”). “Women Like Us” is slated to begin production this fall in New York City.

As the longline explains, the plot kicks off when a “recently widowed woman is dragged to the Hamptons by her lifelong best friends and sister on what should have been her 30th anniversary, the weekend becomes a reckoning, with grief, with marriage, with the sisterhood that’s carried them throughout the years, and with the realization that dreams don’t have an expiration date.”

“Women Like Us” is produced by Macro Film Studios, founded by King, and Higher Ground, President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama’s media company. “Women Like Us” is the companies’ first collaboration.

The movie marks the latest collaboration between Netflix and Higher Ground; other works include “Leave the World Behind,” “American Symphony” and “Rustin,” as well as the upcoming series “All the Sinners Bleed” and “The Altruists” and the Julianne Moore-led mother-daughter comedy film.

Goldberg is represented by WME; Lewis is represented by WME and Innovative Artists; Williams is represented by UTA and Untitled Entertainment; and Fox is represented by Innovative Artists.
