White House Claps Back at Noah Kahan for Criticizing Trump’s Use of His Song

The White House wasn’t too happy with singer-songwriter Noah Kahan criticizing President Donald Trump for using one of his songs on social media.

On Tuesday, after the Trump administration used his track “American Cars” as the audio for a recent video posted on the POTUS and White House Instagram and TikTok accounts, Kahan left his thoughts in the comments.

“Would never approve of my music being used in support of you or this administration,” he wrote, making his stance known. Kahan’s comment has already garnered nearly 50,000 likes, as of Wednesday afternoon.

In response, Kaelan Dorr, who serves as the deputy assistant to the president and deputy communications director, wrote on X, “Symptoms of TDS [Trump derangement syndrome] apparently include having a northern attitude,” referencing Kahan’s hit song “Northern Attitude.”

The “Stick Season” artist isn’t the first celebrity to get into a flame war with Trump. Bruce Springsteen, Rosie O’Donnell, Robert De Niro and Jimmy Kimmel are among others who have engaged in fiery back-and-forth insults with the controversial president.

Trump has also been called out by a long list of other artists for using their music without permission, including Celine Dion, Katy Perry, Kesha, Tom Petty and many others. While some have been able to block the use of their songs at his campaign rallies, other times it’s been more difficult, as the tracks were included in the public Instagram or TikTok music libraries, meaning anyone can use them in a social media video.

Kahan is currently traveling across the globe on his The Great Divide Tour, in support of his fourth studio album, The Great Divide, which was the follow-up to the breakout hit Stick Season in 2022.
