Eric Stonestreet Says Taylor Swift Madison Square Garden Wedding Gave Guests Privacy and Security Too

Eric Stonestreet is sharing some insight into Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding at Madison Square Garden.

In an interview with People magazine, the Modern Family star praised the ceremony as being “awesome,” with he and his wife Lindsay Schweitzer initially staying mum on the proceedings to be “very conscious of being respectful to the couple.”

“I didn’t want to peep before. I didn’t want to peep after. And then once people started putting stuff out there, of course we were proud to be invited,” he said.

Stonestreet, who is a diehard fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, knows Kelce “very well” and recalled once presenting Swift with an award at the 2012 American Music Awards.

“We’ve seen Travis from when he was drafted, and we’ve seen him through different phases of his life,” Stonestreet said. “So when they started dating, we were so happy for him. But we were also happy for Taylor because we know what kind of human being Travis is. So we were excited to celebrate their love with them and a few other people in New York City, and it was just a treat to be there.”

Despite their wedding taking place at Madison Square Garden, which required street closures and crowd control by the New York City police and resulted in some criticism, the actor explained why the location was actually beneficial to the guests as well.

“I think my favorite moment was just that they created a place that they could have the normalcy that they deserve,” he said. “And it just happened to be at Madison Square Garden with security making sure everybody was safe and good and they could just have a night for themselves. I really thought of it as what a gift they gave to us too. It’s one thing nobody’s talking about is what a gesture it was to those people that they invited and to welcome us and to provide such an incredible night and then to provide such incredible generous donations to charities in New York and Kansas City and everywhere else.”

New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani said Swift paid the city $160,000 for the permit required for police to have supervise their July 3 wedding. The couple also made $26 million in charitable donations to more than a dozen organizations across the country.

Swift’s longtime publicist Tree Paine shared that Adam Sandler officiated the ceremony. Though Swift didn’t have bridesmaids and Kelce didn’t have groomsmen, her brother Austin Swift was Taylor Swift’s man of honor and Jason Kelce was Travis Kelce’s best man.

Swift wore a custom haute couture gown by Jonathan Anderson of Christian Dior. Kelce also wore a haute couture look by Anderson for Dior.

Stars spotted arriving to the wedding in Midtown Manhattan included Jack Antonoff, Bradley Cooper, Lena Dunham, Selena Gomez, Ed Sheeran, Jessica Chastain, Dakota Johnson, Jason Sudeikis and more.

Swift and Kelce have yet to publicly share photos from the wedding.
